Bay Area band Mommy Mommy and Los Angeles band French Mouth brought the Northern and Southern California rock scenes together for a wild night at the Offbeat Bar in Los Angeles. Both bands open up about their favorite karaoke songs, first shows, and the weirdest places they’ve peed.

MOMMY MOMMY

First Show:

Ray (vocals, keys, guitar): When I was a teenager I snuck out with my friend and her older brother to see Against Me!. I didn’t know who they were at the time but I remember being pleasantly shocked by the amount of moshing and weed and queer people.

Lily (guitar): My parents took me to all kinds of shit growing up but my first show was Rihanna when I was 12.

Ian (bass): Green Day when I was 9.

Chard (drums): The first real concert I saw was Robert Plant at the Fox Theater. It was also the highest I’ve been and I remember very little about that performance. He definitely played, I think

The last thing you ate:

Ray: stale vegan donut

Lily: Leftover pad thai

Ian: Early morning poptart

Chard: chocolate

Weirdest place you slept:

Ray: A stranger’s bathtub

Lily: I once got a very restful 8 hours in the middle of a friend's living room during a party.

Ian: I dozed off at the top of a ferris wheel after the power went out for 30 minutes

Chard: One time when I was like 8 I slept walked all the way to my parents van. I somehow managed to descend two flights of stairs, open two different doors, and buckle myself into the car seat. Baby Chad was built different.

Weirdest place you peed:

Ray: On our way to band practice a few weeks ago, we got stuck in a complete traffic stand still for an hour on an overpass on the 101 South. Lily and I had to piss.

Lily: Ray and I pissed off a highway overpass a few weeks ago on our way to practice.

Ian: In a Gatorade bottle on the interstate in Maryland.

Chard: My pants

Karaoke song:

Ray: “Paper Bag” by Fiona Apple or maybe “Daddy Lessons” by Beyoncé if that’s too sad girl of me

Lily: I don't like karaoke so maybe “Moby Dick” by Led Zeppelin

Ian: “My Own Worst Enemy” by Lit

Chard: Ooh there’s so many! Maybe the “Dean and I” by 10cc

Best crying in the shower song:

Ray: “Because Dreaming Costs Money, My Dear” by Mitski

Lily: Any of my Lana sad girl anthems…maybe “Norman Fucking Rockwell”.

Ian: “I Miss You” by Blink-182

Chard: “My Jinji” is the only song that can make me cry every time i listen to it; it’s an incredibly fascinating experience every time

Favorite sandwich:

Ray: Hot chicken pesto from Butcher’s Son in Berkeley, CA

Lily: Is a bagel a sandwich? I love bagels.

Ian: Grilled cheese I guess lol

Chard: Probably the chopped cheese from the Butcher’s Son
